The Wonderland Top

I discovered a new-to-me crochet artist on Instagram at the end of 2020 - CrochetWithAlannaMiall. She has so many neat pieces and I just love her style. Earlier this year she released a pattern for the Wonderland top - it has a really neat back with an option for short sleeves or long flared sleeves. Since I’ve had decent success in creating tops for myself so far, I decided to purchase the pattern and see what would happen.

I had a bit of a hard time finding 4-ply/super fine yarn for this project, so I went with the smallest weight yarn that I could find enough of at Joann’s in a single color - Lion Brand Truboo in the Thistle colorway. I also adjusted my hook size to account for the weight of the yarn and my tight crocheting up to 4.0mm. The pattern was well written and had plenty of pictures, so it wasn’t difficult to work up (minus the usual frustration of missing a stitch and not catching it for a few rounds and then having to rip back several times - the story of my entire crochet life). Assembly is also one of my least favorite parts of any crochet project and that went well on this top too.

I’m really happy with how this project turned out since making something with sleeves was another first on my crochet journey. The choice of yarn made for less detail, but it worked out pretty well for someone who is still transitioning from creating amigurumi/stuffies only. I also purchased Alanna’s Dreamland dress pattern so there will definitely be more projects from her patterns in the future!
