Donuts are Delicious

February has involved quite a bit of off-plan eating which always includes donuts. Jeff, AR, and I took our own mini donut tour a few weeks ago which included both General Porpoise and Half and Half Doughnuts.

General Porpoise has what I would call malasada style donuts that are filled with rotating flavors of creams, curds, custards, and jams. I had previously tried both the chocolate marshmallow and vanilla custard with the help of my LimeMates and was pleased with both. This was a first visit for both Jeff and AR. We had the vanilla custard and a seasonal strawberry jam. I think the strawberry jam is the best flavor I’ve had here so far. While the donuts are quite tasty, I’m not sure that they’re something I’d head into Seattle for on a regular basis.

Our second stop was Half and Half Doughnuts - a first visit for all of us. I’d say they serve slightly fancy versions of traditional donuts. We got a lot of things to try - pineapple fritter, banana foster, passionfruit, pomegranate, chocolate hazelnut, and a few other things. I was ready to be unimpressed because this shop originated from one of the founders of Top Pot (which I think is highly overrated), but these were actually really good. The non-traditional flavor of what might otherwise be a traditional donut works in my book. I would visit this shop again, but probably also not something I’d get often unless it came to the East side.

Final verdict: as the blog title states - donuts are delicious. Lots more donut sampling to come in the future.
