Independence Weekend Eats

Food is something we’ve turned to a lot this year since it’s the one thing that it feels like we can still indulge in with low risk. We took our liberties with the carb eating last weekend for the holiday. Here are some excerpts:

We started the weekend out by finally trying the baked goods from Deru Market. Everything I’d seen indicated the cake here was ginormous, but I just couldn’t believe it. Well folks, believe it. The cake is huge.

  1. My slice of chocolate cake with salted peanut butter frosting. It was moist and the frosting was just the right level of peanut buttery - not overwhelming. It took me about 4 sittings over the course of 2 days to devour this monstrosity.

  2. Jeff’s slice of coconut cake with cream cheese frosting. He somehow finished this in one sitting. I think he was pleased about it.

  3. A slice of cornmeal cake. I enjoyed this since I’m a fan of cornbread type things, but I’d still choose my giant slice of cake over this.

  4. Doughnuts! If you know me, you know I’m always down for doughnuts. These hit the spot.

  5. A slice of apple bread (not pictured because it came out too blurry to post). This was also a very moist cake with a good flavor, but I’d still choose my giant slice over this one.

It’s not a carb eating weekend during Redmond Saturday Market season without getting a Darlene cookie. I’ve loved these cookies since the first time I got them at RSM many years ago (I even had some at my wedding!). The fireworks cookies felt especially festive and the pink cookie is my “old faithful” of cookies.

I’ve also always got to have an Okinawa milk tea from Sharetea. It’s the only boba tea place that always tastes good to me. (Still blaming my former Limemate RW for making me into the boba snob you see today).

Hope you’re all well and enjoying the activities you can safely. More boring posts on what we’re eating to come :)
